MERIDIAN - Idaho State Police has been requested by the Boise County Sheriff's Office to investigate a motorcycle crash that occurred on Sunday, September 14th at approximately 6:15 p.m. on southbound Highway 21 between Highland Valley Summit and Robie Creek Road.

Boise County Reserve Deputy David Lee was traveling southbound in his patrol vehicle, a 2000 Ford Explorer, on a three lane portion of Highway 21 and Douglas Towell, 53 of Ontario, Oregon, was traveling behind Deputy Lee on a 1989 Harley Davidson motorcycle with passenger Chellus Towell, 43, also of Ontario, Oregon. Deputy Lee observed a vehicle speeding in the northbound lane, braked and began to turn his patrol vehicle around. It was at this time that Towell braked, the motorcycle went down, and both Towell and his passenger were ejected. Witnesses report that Deputy Lee's patrol vehicle overhead emergency lights were in use.

Both Douglas and Chellus Towell were transported by Life Flight to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Neither of the riders were wearing helmets.

Anyone who may have been a witness to this crash is encouraged to call Idaho State Police at 208-846-7550. Troopers would specifically like to speak to the driver of a dark colored Hummer who was traveling in the northbound lane around the time of the crash.
