On Saturday, August 2, 2014 at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle injury crash eastbound I84 at milepost 208, near Burley. Robert Averett, 25 of Casper, WY was traveling eastbound in a 1998 Saturn. Averett lost control and overcorrected in the median and rolled onto the roadway, across both lanes and landed on its top off the right shoulder into the barrow pit. Averett had rolled in front of Joseph Greener,18 of Burley, driving a 1999 Volvo. Greener left the roadway on the right shoulder to avoid a collision with Averett.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Averett's passenger, Jessica Westby, 19 of Rock Springs, WY was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected at the time of the crash. Westby was taken by ground ambulance to the Cassia Regional Medical Center and then later lifeflighted to Portneuf Regional Medical Center in Pocatello.
Lanes of travel were blocked for approximately 30 minutes for the investigation of the crash.
