Fatal Crash on US Highway 20 near Mountain Home

Friday, May 20, 2011 at approximately 11:50 am, Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle fatality crash on US Highway 20 at milepost 97.7, near Mountain Home, Idaho. Samuel Pope, age 48 of Boise, Idaho, driving a 2000 Ford Pickup, was travelling eastbound on US Highway 20. For unknown reasons Samuel's vehicle left the roadway impacting the jersey barrier and came to rest out of the roadway.

Samuel Pope and his passenger Thressa Pope, age 75 of Pine, Idaho, were both transported by ground ambulance to Elmore Medical Center. Samuel was pronounced dead at the hospital; Thressa is being treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash. Thressa was wearing her seatbelt, while the driver, Samuel, was not.

Senior Trooper Rich Ivey was assisted by Master Corporal George Szeles from the Idaho State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit, as well as Elmore County Sheriff's Office, and emergency personnel.
