On Friday, April 15th, 2011, at approximately 5:30 pm, Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle crash on State Highway 52 at milepost 41, near the entrance to Triangle Park.

Harold Litz, 53 years old of Middleton, Idaho, was travelling eastbound when he lost control of his 1994 Mazda 626. The vehicle hit the guardrail, went airborne, hit a sign and went down an embankment into the Black Canyon Reservoir. The vehicle was submerged several feet under water.
An on duty Idaho Fish and Game officer happened to be in the area. He went into the water, and pulled Litz to safety. Litz was transported by ground ambulance to Walter Knox Memorial Hospital in Emmett, Idaho.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, Litz was wearing his seatbelt.

The crash is under investigation by Cpl. Hedges with assistance at the scene from Cpl. Thompson, Gem County Deputies, Gem County Fire and Rescue, Gem County Dive Team, and Gem County medical personnel.
