On October 9, 2010, at approximately 8:00 pm, Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 29 in Caldwell. Ruth Winter, 58 years old of Marysville, Washington, was eastbound when her 2006 GMC pickup drifted into the median and crossed over to the westbound lanes. The truck collided head-on with a 2001 Dodge Caravan driven by 38 year-old Javier Macedo. Macedo succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His passengers, 40 year-old Wendy Ibarra, 17 year-old Emily Ibarra Macedo, and two juveniles, Ashley and Jeshua Ibarra Macedo, were all transported to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Winter was also transported to St. Alphonsus with severe injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The crash is still under investigation by Cpl. Gripton of Idaho State Police with assistance at the scene by Sgt. Stauffer, Cpl. S. Klitch, Tpr. Tulleners, M. Cpl. Robertson, Idaho Transportation Department and Canyon County Emergency crew
