At approximately 12:24 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2010, Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle fatality crash on State Highway 21 at milepost 45 near Idaho City. Paula Muriel, 37 of Boise, was traveling northbound on State Highway 21 in a 1989 Honda Civic when, for unknown reasons, she failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle hit the embankment, spun, impacted a large tree, and flipped, coming to rest on its top in the river. Muriel was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the driver's seat into the hatchback of the vehicle. Muriel died as a result of the crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Family has been notified.

State Highway 21 was blocked for emergency vehicles during the investigation of the crash and the removal of Muriel's vehicle. Idaho State Police were assisted by Boise County deputies and EMS as well as the Swift Water Dive Team out of Ada County.
