On Friday, June 25th, 2010 at approximately 10:49 am, the Idaho State Police investigated a three-vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 84 at milepost 237, near the Idahome exit in Cassia County.

Cody Scott, 18, of Vernal, UT was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup which was taken from the owner without his permission. In a suicidal attempt, Scott crossed the median into oncoming eastbound traffic where he struck two commercial tractor-trailers traveling eastbound being driven by John Jessop, 36, of Slaterville, UT, and Joseph Poynor, 23, of Springfield, MO.

Scott was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Jessop and Poynor were both transported to Cassia Regional Hospital where they are in stable condition and being treated for injuries sustained. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. Eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 were blocked at the scene. Idaho Transportation Department closed the eastbound lanes of the interstate for approximately five hours from milepost 222 to the Utah border while the scene was cleared. All lanes of travel are now open.

The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Kilton. Kilton was assisted at the scene by Master Corporal D. Gibbs and Commercial Vehicle Specialist Uhlenkott, as well as deputies and EMS personnel from Cassia County and the Idaho Transportation Department.
