On Thursday, June 3, 2010, at approximately 4:18 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle injury crash southbound on Interstate 15 at milepost 82 near Fort Hall. Shaylyn Lawson, 19 of Idaho Falls, was traveling southbound in a 2002 Jeep Liberty in the right lane and attempted to merge into the left lane in order to pass another vehicle. Lawson's passenger alerted her to a vehicle that was in the left lane, and she steered hard to the right in order to avoid a collision. Lawson lost control of the vehicle, and it overturned. Lawson, her 4-month-old infant, and her passenger, Jon Shibahara, 19, were all transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. The infant was later transported by air ambulance to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Another passenger, Julian Humphrey, 19, was not injured. All occupants were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Idaho State Police were assisted at the scene by the Idaho Transportation Department as well as Fort Hall EMS and Search and Rescue.
