On January 31, 2012, shortly after 6:30 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash on US 93 near milepost 15, in Twin Falls County. Charisse Stenerson, age 50 of Lynwood, WA, was traveling north on US 93 when her vehicle traveled across the center line into southbound traffic. Stenerson's vehicle collided with a Freightliner semi truck. The truck was driven by Douglas Lunstad, age 37 of Fairview, MT. Stenerson's vehicle rolled over and came to rest on the west shoulder of the road. Stenerson was transported by ground ambulance to Saint Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, ID.

Southbound traffic was blocked for approximately one hour during the investigation. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash. This crash was investigated by Trooper Pohanka, who was assisted by Trooper Faller and Twin Falls Sheriff's Deputies.

On January 26, 2012, at approximately 2:21 p.m., Idaho State Police District 4 Criminal Interdiction Team trooper, Cpl. Troy DeBie, stopped a white 2002 Nissan XTerra, displaying Nevada license plates, northbound on US Highway 93, near milepost 31, in Twin Falls County, Idaho for speeding.

The driver was identified as Yulenny Rojo-Lugo 34 years of age, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Information was uncovered that led to the discovery of a modified compartment within the vehicle. Inside the compartment troopers located two sealed packages weighing just over two pounds and containing black tar heroin. The estimated street value is just over $72,000. Rojo-Lugo was arrested for trafficking of heroin, and booked into the Twin Falls County Jail. A female passenger, Adilene Torres, was released without charges. A male supplier in Las Vegas was identified and an arrest warrant has been issued.

On January 26th, 2012, at approximately 11:30 am, Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle injury crash on US26 at milepost 374, near Swan Valley.

Jarin W. Jorgensen, 18 of Idaho Falls, was traveling east on US26 at milepost 374, in a 1998 Dodge Stratus. Jorgensen was driving too fast for road conditions on snow covered roads when he lost control of his vehicle. He ran off the right shoulder of the road. The vehicle struck rocks along the bank of the Snake River, then went into the River, upright, half submerged in approximately 4-5 feet of water.

Jorgensen and his passenger, Richard Aitken, 50 of Menan, were able to exit the vehicle and swim to shore. Swan Valley Fire Department responded to the scene and rendered first aid. Jorgensen and Aitken were transported by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.

Idaho State Police was assisted at the scene by Bonneville County Sheriff's Office who also provided divers from their dive team to help recover the vehicle from the river.

The crash is under investigation.

On January 26, 2012, at approximately 8:53 a.m., Idaho State Police responded to a six vehicle minor injury crash, eastbound I184 at milepost 1.5 just east of the Franklin exit. Lillian Hale, 42 of Caldwell, was traveling eastbound on I184 in a white Volvo V70 when she had to stop for traffic due to a crash further ahead around milepost 3. Christina Sipher, 22 of Meridian, was unable to stop her white Ford Ranger and rear ended Hale. Jerry Hughes, 44 of Nampa, was driving a black Jeep Wrangler and rear ended Sipher. Jackie Burgess, 68 of Meridian, collided with Hughes causing the black Jeep to spin in to the left lane. Burgess was driving a grey Lincoln Town. Pamela Halvorson, 64 of Meridian, was traveling in her grey Saturn Ion and side swiped Burgess's grey Lincoln Town and collided with the black Jeep as well. Alanna Moore, 29 of Nampa, was in the left most lane when she struck the black Jeep as it spun in front of her. Moore was driving a grey Toyota Prius.

All parties involved where were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Burgess and Halvorson were transported by ground ambulance to St Alphonsus Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. Moore is pregnant and was transported as a precaution. At the time of the crash it was raining and the road was wet.

Eastbound I184 was blocked for approximately an hour due to the investigation. Lanes were opened at 10:15 a.m. This crash is still under investigation by Corporal Thompson, with assistance from Corporal Chase, Sergeant Duggan, Sr. Specialist Uhlenkott, Master Corporal Eller, Corporal Vance, Boise Police Department, Fire and EMS.

On January 25, 2012, at approximately 7:07 p.m., Idaho State Police District 3 Criminal Interdiction Team troopers stopped a rented gray 2010 Nissan Titan, displaying Oregon License plates, eastbound on Interstate 84, near milepost 27, in Canyon County, Idaho for a traffic violation.

The driver was identified by an Oregon driver's license as Justin Cody Brownrigg (39 YOA) of Eugene, Oregon. During the traffic stop, troopers detected the odor of marijuana. Mr. Brownrigg initially admitted to being in possession of eight to ten grams of marijuana, as well as being a Medical Marijuana Card Holder (of Oregon). At the time of the stop, the vehicle was traveling through Idaho, a non-medical marijuana state, and was reportedly destined for Utah, also a non-medical marijuana state.

Troopers located the small amount of marijuana, as well as a pipe in the driver's area. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed three large duffle bags which contained several large packages of marijuana. Mr. Brownrigg was arrested for Felony Drug Trafficking (marijuana) and was booked into the Canyon County Jail. The weight of the seized marijuana was approximately 68.8 pounds, with an estimated value of $172,000.

On January 24th, 2012, at approximately 6:55 PM, Idaho State Police responded to a vehicle in the river off of State Highway 55, at milepost 78.1, near Banks/Lowman Road. Officers believe Howard Koskella, age 86 of Donnelly, was traveling south on State Highway 55 when his vehicle left the road for unknown reasons. Koskella's vehicle went down an embankment, rolling several times before coming to rest partially submerged in the Payette River. Both Howard and his passenger, Ethel Koskella, age 83 and also of Donnelly, died as a result of the crash.

The crash occurred early in the day, but the exact time of the crash is unknown. The roadway was blocked for approximately half an hour while crews removed the vehicle. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in this crash. The crash is under investigation by Trooper McCarthy, with assistance from Trooper Sherbondy. Notifications to the family have been made.

INCIDENT NARRATIVE:

Henager was traveling in the southbound lanes on US95 when he lost control, went left of center, and struck Walston head-on. Henager was pushed into the southbound ditch. Walston then lost control, went left of center into the southbound lane and struck Mady head-on. Mady�s semi trailer then flipped onto its side and blocked all southbound lanes and the northbound passing lane while the semi tractor went off into the southbound ditch of US 95. Fendos was in the southbound lanes when Henager had lost control. Fendos took evasive measures to miss Henager as he went off the southbound shoulder. Fendos struck Shevchuk who was northbound on US 95. Shevchuk then lost control and drove into the northbound ditch. House, who was northbound, swerved to miss Shevchuk and drove into the northbound ditch of US 95. At this time US95 has been completely blocked for over 11 hours. Next of kin has been notified.

On January 21, 2012 at 8:37 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated an injury crash northbound on I15 at mile marker 55.2, south of Inkom.

Steven A. Shade, 60 of Ogden, UT, was traveling northbound on I15 in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado when he lost control of his vehicle on the wet pavement. The rear of Shade's vehicle struck the guardrail on the right shoulder and then a passing 2003 Kenworth semi tractor pulling a 2006 Wilson trailer which was also traveling northbound. Upon impact, the driver of the tractor and trailer, C.J. Palmer, 29 of Rupert, lost control of his vehicle. Both the semi truck and the pickup truck traveled through the guardrail and down a 50 foot steep embankment coming to rest at the bottom.

Shade and Palmer were both transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center along with Shade's passenger, Tyson W. Shade, 25 of Ogden, UT. Both Steven and Tyson were wearing their seatbelts. Palmer was not wearing his seatbelt.

Northbound lanes of I15 are no longer blocked.

On January 20, 2012, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle rollover on Interstate 84 near milepost 58, between Gowen Road Exit 57 and Eisenman Road Exit 59.

Bernard Liss, 75, of Union City, Indiana, was traveling west in a 2009 Ford F750 truck. Liss drove the vehicle off the left shoulder then over corrected onto the right shoulder where it slid and overturned at least once before coming to rest upside down in the right lane.

Liss was transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. The Interstate was partially blocked for over 3 hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police Sgt. Cagle with assistance at the scene by Idaho State Police Specialist Love and Ada County Deputies.

Shortly before 1:00 PM today, January 18th, 2012, the Idaho State Police, assisted by Fremont County, investigated a four-vehicle injury crash on US Highway 20 in Island Park. Paul Ivany, age 55 of Australia was traveling westbound behind a snowplow on US20 at milepost 388 in Island Park. Amy Broderick, age 27 of Kanab,UT, Kristin Broderick, age 19 of Kanab UT, and Anthony Espy, age 43 of Antelope,CA were all eastbound at that location. After passing the snowplow, Amy Broderick and Ivany collided, blocking both lanes of travel. Kristin Broderick was then struck from behind by Espy, and her vehicle was pushed into Amy's vehicle. Traffic was blocked for approximately 3 hours while the investigation was conducted and the vehicles were removed.

Amy and Kristin Broderick, as well as 3 passengers from their vehicles, were transported to Madison Memorial with injuries that were not life-threatening. Neither Ivany or Espy were injured. The crash is still under investigation by Corporal Goody, with assistance from Corporal Murdock. On Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at approximately 1:18 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on Golf Course Road near Jerome Country Club in Jerome County.

Toni Martinez, 56 of Twin Falls, was traveling eastbound in a 1990 Ford van on Golf Course road when she lost control of her vehicle and swerved into oncoming traffic. Martinez collided with a 2002 Ford truck being driven by Donna Clovis, 73 of Hagerman Id, blocking westbound lanes of travel. Toni Martinez was pronounced deceased at the time of the crash, notifications have been made. Martinez was not wearing her seat belt. Donna Clovis and her passenger Mary Warner, 78 of Hagerman, were transported to Saint Lukes in Jerome with unknown injuries. Clovis and Warner were wearing seatbelts.

It is unknown if alcohol is a factor in the crash. It was snowing at the time of the crash and road conditions were snow and slush covered, it is unknown if
weather is a factor in the crash.

Investigating Trooper McConnell was assisted by Jerome County sheriff's office.

The Idaho State Police are currently investigating a fatality crash on Golf Course Road, near the Jerome Country Club. The crash occurred around 1:18 p.m. on January 18, 2012. Notifications have not been made at this time. More information will be made available at a later time. On January 15, 2012, at approximately 2:14 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on State Highway 75 at the US Highway 93 Junction near Challis.

Adam Smith, 18, from Challis, Idaho was traveling west on State Highway 75 in a 1985 Chevy S10 pickup when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic at the US 93 Junction. Smith was hit on the driver's side by a white Ford F350 traveling south on US Highway 93, being driven by Ronald A. Rembelski, 42, from Challis, Idaho. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. Rembelski and his two passengers were transported to Steelhead Memorial in Salmon, Idaho where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

Idaho State Police Trooper Joseph Lewis and Senior Trooper Chris Lenda are investigating the crash and were assisted by Custer County Deputies Levi Maydole, Shawn Kramer and the Challis Fire and EMS.

On January 15, 2012, at approximately 9:16 am, the Idaho State Police responded to a vehicle fire southbound on I15 near milepost 27, approximately 3 miles north of the Malad summit. A semi hauling a load of straw caught fire, and was completely engulfed. The vehicle fire started a grass fire, which burned approximately one acre of brush on the side of the interstate. Both lanes of travel were blocked for approximately forty minutes, and the interstate was reduced to one lane for approximately four and a half hours. Traffic was let through intermittently, as the wind was shifting and blowing debris back across the interstate. No one was injured in this fire, and the driver was not cited. Master Corporal Sellers was assisted at the scene by Corporal Stouse with the Idaho State Police, Bannock County Sheriff's Office, Bannock County Fire Department, Bannock County Search and Rescue, the Downey Fire Department, and the Idaho Transportation Department. This fire is still under investigation by Master Corporal Sellers.

On January 14, 2012, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a three vehicle fatality crash Westbound I84 at milepost 108, 13 miles east of Mountain Home in Elmore County. Taylor Sauer, 18 of Caldwell, ID, driving a 2004 Saturn Vue, was traveling west on Interstate 84 near milepost 108. David Seefried, 49 of Heyburn, ID, driving a 2011 International Semi pulling a tanker trailer, was traveling west on Interstate 84 in the right lane of travel, up a long grade at approximately fifteen miles per hour. Sauer impacted the rear of the tanker and then was struck by a 2003 Volvo Semi pulling a trailer, driven by Slawomir Porada, 42 of St. Louis, MO. Porada after impacting the Saturn Vue, drove off the road way. Sauer was pronounced dead at the scene. Porada was transported by ground ambulance to Elmore Medical Center in Mountain Home. Seat belts were worn by all. Alcohol was not a factor in this crash.

The westbound lanes were blocked for approximately an hour. Traffic was reduced to a single lane for three hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

The crash is under investigation by Master Corporal Porupsky, and assisted by Sergeant Cagle, Specialist Bailey, Specialist Carmack, Trooper Higley, Elmore County Sheriff's Office and emergency personnel.

Crash near New Plymouth results in Arrest

On January 13, 2012, at approximately 3:18 pm., Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 84 at milepost 17, near New Plymouth. A 2007 Peterbuilt semi, driven by Blake Van Vliet, age 26 of New Plymouth, was headed westbound, when his truck was struck on the drivers' side by a 2006 Kia Rio, driven by Maria Arreola-Cisneros, age 41 of Caldwell. The impact of the crash caused a leak in the fuel tank of the semi, spilling approximately 50-75 gallons of fuel. Emergency crews had the right lane blocked for approximately 3 hours while they cleaned up the spill. Arreola-Cisneros and her front passenger, Leobardo Guzman, age 24 of Caldwell, were wearing their seatbelts and were uninjured in the crash. The back seat passengers of the vehicle; Raquel Garcia, age 40, and Maria Perez, age 24, were not wearing their seatbelts. Perez was transported by ground ambulance to West Valley Medical Center for injuries she sustained in the crash. Maria Arreola-Cisneros was arrested for Inattentive Driving and Driving without Privileges.

The crash was investigated by Trooper West and was assisted at the scene by Idaho Transportation Department and the Canyon County Sheriff's Office.

On January 11, 2012, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 86 at milepost 46, near American Falls. A 1993 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Gary Lujan, age 55 of Pocatello, was traveling westbound, when he was struck from the rear by a 2005 Ford Taurus driven by Cory Hanks, age 35 of Burley. The impact caused Lujan's Blazer to roll. A passenger in the Blazer, Christinna Pehrson, age 51 of Pocatello, was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Portneuf Medical Center by air ambulance with severe leg injuries. Lujan sustained minor injuries and was transported to Portneuf Medical Center by ground ambulance. It is unknown if seatbelts were worn by Lujan or Pehrson. Hanks was wearing his seatbelt and air bags did deploy in his vehicle at the time of the crash.

The crash is being investigated by Trooper Brennan who was assisted by the Power County Sheriff's Office. Hanks was cited for inattentive driving.

On Monday, January 9, 2012 at approximately 2:22 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle fatality crash Eastbound I84 at milepost 247 in Cassia County. Jennifer Shira, 23 of Kooskia, Id was traveling westbound on I84 in a 2003 Subaru Impreza when for unknown reasons lost control of the vehicle and went into the median. The vehicle overturned and traveled out of the median and into the eastbound lanes. The vehicle collided into a 2007 Freightliner Tractor trailer driven by Dick Garoutte, 51 of Clearfield, Ut and came to rest blocking both eastbound lanes. Jennifer Shira was pronounced deceased at the time of the crash. Her husband, Bryson Shira, 26 of Kooskia, and 2 young children were transported to the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley with minor injuries. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The eastbound lanes were blocked for approximately 2 1/2 hours during the investigation. Tpr McConnell was assisted by Cpl. Hitt, Tpr Kilton, Tpr Clausing, Sgt Garcia, Specialist Smith and emergency personnel. The crash is still under investigation at this time.

Lt. Colonel Powell started his career with the Idaho State Police as a Trooper in the spring of 1983 in District 5. In 1985 he transferred to District 3 where he served in Executive Protection and on the ISP SWAT Team. He was a District 3 Sergeant from 1987 to 1993, when he transferred to Coeur d'Alene as the District Commander. In 1996 Captains Brownlee and Powell switched districts and Captain Powell transferred to Boise and took over the District 3 Command position. In 1999 Captain Powell was promoted to Major over the Forensic Services Division. Approximately 9 years later, he became the Major over Police Services where he served until January of 2010, when he transferred to Operations Major over Districts 3, 5, 6, CVS, Training, and the Regional Communications Centers.

Lt. Colonel Powell holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelors degree in Pre-Law. He is a graduate from the FBI National Academy, session 191.

Public assist on fatal crash

On October 15, 2011 Idaho State Police investigated a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on US95 near milepost 341. The pedestrian was identified as Joshwa Merriken, and investigation revealed Merriken was struck and killed the evening of September 30, 2011.

The suspect vehicle is a 1986 through 1992 Ford F-series pickup or Bronco which was likely to be either towing or hauling a camper. We have obtained a list of vehicles in the area and have evidence to confirm the specific vehicle involved when we find it, however the list is very long and will be time consuming and costly to go through.

Merriken had been warned numerous times by family and several law enforcement agencies about walking along the fog line on highways and being dressed in dark, non reflective clothing.
Due to the circumstances of the collision, it is very likely there would have been no charges filed for striking Mr. Merriken.

We are slowly narrowing down the list, however we are urging the driver of the vehicle, witnesses, or anyone else who has information to come forward and allow us to close the investigation sooner than later, and allow the family some sort of closure.

On Wednesday, January 04, 2012, at approximately 4:36 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a semi versus train crash in Shelley, Idaho.

Laron Nielsen, 47, of Idaho Falls, was traveling west on Center St. towards US91 in a 2004 Columbian Freightliner semi truck. Nielsen crossed over the railroad tracks that were parallel to US91 and stopped at a stop sign to turn northbound onto US91. Joseph Kelley, 58, of Pocatello, was the engineer of the train that was heading northbound on the railroad tracks. The back of Nielsen's semi trailer was about six inches over the railroad tracks when the train struck the semi's trailer.
Nielsen had one passenger, Gerald Young, 73, of Blackfoot. Kelley had three passengers; Lancer Bloxham, 34, of Pocatello; Kasey Paul, 28, of Pocatello and Thomas Beseris, 53, of Pocatello.

The railroad crossing at Center St. was closed for approximately two hours. There were no injuries. Nielsen and his passenger were wearing their seatbelts.

The crash is under investigation by Tpr. Law who was assisted by Cpl. Summers.

The Idaho State Police will be holding a Road Safe Class for the 2012 winter season on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. The class will be held at the Idaho State Police District Office at 615 W. Wilbur Ave. in Coeur d Alene. (Meeting Rooms A & B)

This is the ninth year that this award-winning program has been offered year round to the public.

This is a classroom setting designed to educate drivers of all ages on the typical problems associated with winter road conditions in Idaho. The class consists of a power point presentation and video on safe driving tips as well as to prepare for the winter driving season. Other topics discussed will be how to deal with aggressive drivers on the roadways, DUIs, and other driving problems and situations. The class will last for approximately 3 hours.

No cost for the class.

Newman Giles, 23, of Rigby, was traveling south in a 2007 Peterbuilt with a trailer full of potatoes. Giles took the 119 exit and rolled his vehicle onto it's side spilling potatoes across both the southbound ramps.

Idaho State Police Trooper Travis Hight located the vehicle southbound on US Highway 95 near milepost 308 traveling at a high rate of speed. Trooper Hight initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle which did not pull over. A pursuit was initiated continuing southbound. The vehicle was being driven in an erratic manner spending a considerable amount of time in the oncoming lane of travel. The driver crashed at milepost 286 on US 95. After the crash the subject was able to commandeer another vehicle from Elizabeth Braun of Nez Perce. The driver continued south on Highway 95. Idaho State Police Trooper Larsen used a spike strip near milepost 276 in an attempt to disable the vehicle, only the right rear tire was flattened. The driver continued south reaching milepost 272 where he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the ditch. He was taken to Saint Mary�s Hospital in Cottonwood with minor injuries. The driver was identified as Sheldon Blancher Stamper of Clarkston. The investigation is ongoing. Assisting agencies were the Lewis County Sheriff's Department, Nez Perce Tribal Police Department, and the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Department.

On Sunday, December 31, 2011, at approximately 10:47 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle roll over crash with injuries. Devin Crawford, 18, was traveling west on Interstate 84 at milepost 189.7, near the Valley Road Exit in Jerome County in a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant. For unknown reasons Crawford lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled through the median and came to rest on the shoulder of the eastbound travel lanes. Crawford and two other passengers in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts. They were transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls. A third passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. The third passenger was ejected from the vehicle and transported by air ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash.

The crash is under investigation by Trooper McConnell who was assisted at the scene by Cpl. Hitt and Sgt. Oliver.

On December 31, 2011, at 2:53 pm, Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle rollover crash on US Highway 26 near milepost 360, approximately three miles east of the Clark Hill Rest Area.

David Cox, 30, of Smoot, Wyoming, was traveling west in a 2003 Toyota Tacoma. Cox was driving too fast for the road and weather conditions. Cox lost control of his vehicle, driving off the highway onto the right shoulder where the vehicle rolled. The passenger, Benjamin Schlager, 28, of Smoot, Wyoming was ejected from the vehicle. Schlager was transported by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Cox was not transported.

The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police Trooper Oswald who was assisted at the scene by Corporal Barnes, Corporal Bivins and Bonneville County Sheriff's deputies.

On Friday, December 30, 2011, at approximately 6:37 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 77. Boon Lim, 34, of Mountain Home, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 in a 1997 Chrysler van. While attempting to pass a commercial vehicle, Lim lost control of his vehicle and drove into the median where he overcorrected and rolled the vehicle. Lim's passenger, Ah Hoon Pey, 33, of Mountain Home, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Lim and another passenger, Ging Fong Chin, 59, as well as two minor children were transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Another minor child was also transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Children's Hospital and is in critical condition. Pey was not wearing her seatbelt. It is believed that all other occupants except one child were wearing their seatbelts. The cause of this crash is still under investigation.

Trooper Higley was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Ketchum, Corporals Carmack and Sly, and Troopers Hurley and Ward. The investigation is continuing.

Idaho Operation Lifesaver
"Officer On A Train" and "Adopt A Crossing"

On Friday, December 30, 2011, City, County and State Law Enforcement Officers will be conducting an "Officer On A Train" and "Adopt A Crossing" enforcement operation in Western Idaho.

The purpose of this enforcement operation is to increase public awareness of the potential dangers that exist at highway railroad intersections and eliminate driver actions that can have tragic consequences, by enforcing the traffic laws that pertain to these intersections. The enforcement program is one of three parts of the Operation Lifesaver effort, which include engineering and education, designed to eliminate car train collisions.

During the "Officer On A Train" enforcement effort, one officer is placed in the lead locomotive of a train as a spotter. This officer observes traffic approaching the highway rail intersections as the train proceeds down the tracks. Other officers pace the train or are parked at specific locations. When a motorist is observed violating the laws pertaining to the approaching intersection, the officer on the train radios one of the chase cars which stops the motorist, explain the dangers and issue a citation.

During 2010, there were 16 car train collisions resulting in 4 people injured and 1 fatality.

Since 1990, the "Officer On A Train" program has been instrumental in helping reduce the number of car train collisions in the state. City, County and State law enforcement, State and federal agencies, along with the private business and the railroads that operate in the state sponsor the Idaho Operation Lifesaver program.

On December 26, 2011, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle, rollover crash on 160th East, north of County Line Road, in Jefferson County. Scott A. Boster, 40 of Ririe, was traveling north on 160th East in a 1973 Chevrolet pickup when he drove off the right should of the roadway. Boster's vehicle drove off the edge of a canal, becoming airborne before striking the opposite canal bank and rolling several times. Boster was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by Idaho Falls Fire Department. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.

Sr. Trooper Lenda was assisted by Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Ririe QRU.

Eagle watchers on SH97 near Mineral Ridge Boat Launch

The Idaho State Police in Coeur d'Alene is requesting people wishing to view the eagles off SH97 from the Interstate 90 south to milepost 93 to do so in a safe manner. This area is a high congestion of regular traffic and with the increase of vehicles just for watching the eagles it has become a hazardous situation.

All vehicles and people in this area if stopped have to be off the paved portion of the highway. Any vehicles that are found to be parked on the pavement will be subject to towing at the owner's expense.

Please use caution in this high traffic area on SH97 between the Interstate and milepost 93.

Jason A. Rollins, 31, of Las Vegas, NV was traveling north on State Highway 31 near milepost 11.5 in a 2007 Chevrolet pickup. Kelly O. Klobas, 30, of Swan Valley, ID was traveling south on State Highway 31 near milepost 11.5 in a 2003 Subaru Legacy station wagon. Rollins lost control of the pickup on slick roads and crossed into the southbound lane of travel, striking Klobas' Subaru and causing both vehicles to leave the north side of the road.

Rollins was wearing a seatbelt, and was not transported to the hospital. Klobas was not wearing a seatbelt, and was transported by ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

It's that time of year when festive parties and holiday celebrations seem everywhere, so the Idaho State Police (ISP) reminds motorists to make this holiday season safer for everyone by choosing not to drive while impaired.

Using federal grant funds, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) Office of Highway Safety is partnering with Idaho law enforcement agencies to make highways safer by funding education campaigns and high-visibility impaired driving mobilization patrols. We are currently in the middle of one such campaign that began Dec. 17 and runs through New Year's Day.

The effort is part of Idaho's Toward Zero Deaths, Every Life Counts campaign that emphasizes areas and strategies to eliminate traffic deaths, serious injuries, and the economic losses associated with preventable traffic crashes. Traffic deaths are not just numbers, they are family and friends lost. ISP wants everyone to make it home safely after holiday celebrations.

While all law enforcement agencies throughout the state will be enforcing drunk-driving laws, 65 agencies including state police, sheriff's deputies and local agencies will participate in the ITD Impaired Mobilization patrols. Last year, impaired driving contributed to 1,593 crashes on Idaho's highways and caused 96 fatalities.

Idaho State Police offer some tips to make the holiday party season safer.

* Whenever you plan on consuming alcohol, designate a sober driver before you leave and give that person your keys.

* If you are impaired, call a taxi or sober friend or family member to get you home safely. Many taxi services offer free or discounted rides to partygoers during the holiday season.

* Promptly report drunk drivers to law enforcement. To contact the Idaho State Police, call *ISP (*477)

* If you know someone who is about to drive while impaired, take his or her keys and help make other safe travel arrangements and always wear your seatbelt.

On December 20, 2011 at approximately 4:40pm, Charles Solecki, 34 years of age from Chubbuck, was driving a gray 2006 Ford F-150 from south of the Idaho National Laboratory under the US20/26 connector. Solecki drove off the shoulder of the road and struck the cement face of the underpass. His vehicle then crashed into the west side of the underpass, where the vehicle caught on fire. The INL Fire Department responded and put the vehicle fire out where Solecki's body was discovered inside. Solecki was pronounced dead at the scene.

Trooper Andrew Nakashima and Senior Trooper Chris Lenda are investigating the crash and were assisted by the Butte County Sheriff's office, INL Fire and EMS.

The investigation is ongoing.

The training process on average takes about nine months to complete. The training includes a 10-week POST academy in addition to a 13-week ISP advanced training academy. Upon successful completion of both academies, the new recruit will begin an on-the-job field training for a period of time with experienced Troopers. Academy and on-the-job training are intense and require physically and mentally strong individuals.
Applicants must be willing to work anywhere in the state of Idaho. ISP attempts to accommodate the applicants' choice of location if they are hired, but the assignments are first made based on department needs.
Because travel is constant in Idaho, anytime of the day or year, Troopers will be required to work all shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. On Sunday, December 18, 2011, at approximately 11:45 AM, Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle injury crash on US95 at milepost 111, just south of Cambridge. Zachary Swafford, 23, of Sparks, NV, was traveling south on US95 in a 1998 Pontiac sedan. Lawrence Bland, 26, of Libby, MT, was driving north in a 2005 Ford Focus. Swafford came upon an icy portion of roadway, lost control of the vehicle and entered the northbound lane of travel and was struck by Bland's vehicle on the driver's side. Swafford was transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Bland and his passenger, Kylie Schauss, 22, of Great Falls, MT, were transported by ground ambulance to Weiser Mermorial Hospital in Weiser. Bland and Schauss have been released from the hospital. All occupants were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor.

This crash was investigated by Trooper Klitch of the Idaho State Police. Trooper Klitch was assisted by Master Corporal Boll.

On December 17, 2011, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Idaho State Police, with assistance from the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, investigated a fatal crash at 45th East and US Highway 26, Bonneville County, Idaho.

Jacqueline Hamilton, 50, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was travelling north on 45th East in a blue 1989 Plymouth Voyager Van. Desiree Bramwell, 26, of Lewisville, Idaho, was travelling east on US Highway 26 in a silver 2003 Jeep Liberty. Hamilton failed to yield from the stop sign before crossing US Highway 26, striking Bramwell's vehicle and causing it to roll.

Bramwell was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt. Hamilton was not injured in the crash. She was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash investigation is continuing.

On December 15, 2011, at approximately 10:37 a.m., Cpl. Nalder of the Idaho State Police stopped a black 1993 Ford Ranger pickup for a traffic violation. The stop occurred eastbound on I-86 at milepost 36 in Power County. Cpl. Nalder's investigation lead to the arrest of Terry L. Roberts, age 54 from San Carlos, California. Roberts was arrested for Trafficking in Marijuana, Felony Possession
of Marijuana, and Felony Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine. Approximately 9 pounds of marijuana was seized and 1/4 ounce of methamphetamine was also seized. The total street value for the drugs is estimated at $21,000.00. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Roberts was traveling to Minnesota.

"Officer On A Train" and "Adopt A Crossing"

On Monday December 19th, 2011, City, County and State Law Enforcement Officers will be conducting an "Officer On A Train" and "Adopt A Crossing" enforcement operation in Southeast Idaho.

The purpose of this enforcement operation is to increase public awareness of the potential dangers that exist at highway railroad intersections and eliminate driver actions that can have tragic consequences, by enforcing the traffic laws that pertain to these intersections. The enforcement program is one of three parts of the Operation Lifesaver effort, which includes engineering and education, designed to eliminate car train collisions.

During the "Officer On A Train" enforcement effort, one officer is placed in the lead locomotive of a train as a spotter. This officer observes traffic approaching the highway rail intersections as the train proceeds down the tracks. Other officers pace the train or are parked at specific locations. When a motorist is observed violating the laws pertaining to the approaching intersection, the officer on the train radios one of the chase cars, which stops the motorist, explains the dangers and issues a citation.

During 2010, there were 16 car train collisions resulting in 4 people injured and 1 fatality.

Since 1990, the "Officer On A Train" and "Adopt A Crossing" programs have been instrumental in helping reduce the number of car train collisions in the state. City, County and State law enforcement, State and Federal agencies, along with the private business and the railroads that operate in the state sponsor the Idaho Operation Lifesaver program.

Christmas and New Years is a festive time for many that brings families and friends together, but it can quickly turn into a nightmare when loved ones choose to drive impaired.

Using federal grant funds, the Idaho Transportation Department is partnering with the Idaho State Police to make state highways safer by funding education campaigns and high-visibility impaired driving enforcement patrols from December 17 through January 3.

"The effort is part of Idaho's Toward Zero Deaths' goal to someday have no traffic deaths on Idaho's roads. Traffic deaths are not just numbers. They are family members and friends lost," said Kevin Bechen, with ITD's Office of Highway Operations and Safety. "We want everyone to make it home safely after holiday celebrations."

During the campaign, officers will be watching for impaired drivers. They also will check for seat belt use.

"If your holiday celebrations involve alcohol, avoid driving any vehicle when 'buzzed' or drunk," said Lt. Kevin Haight. "It's not worth the risk. Not only do you risk injuring or killing yourself or someone else, but the financial costs of an arrest or crash are significant," he explained.

In 2010, there were 10,726 DUI arrests in Idaho and there were 96 fatalities resulting from impaired driving. In addition, there were 1,593 impaired driving crashes. 45.9% of all Idaho fatalities in 2010 were the result of impaired driving!

- Whenever you plan on consuming alcohol, designate a sober driver before going out and give that person your keys.
- If you're impaired, call a taxi, a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
- Promptly report drunk drivers you see on roadways to law enforcement. To contact the Idaho State Police, call *ISP or 208-736-3070.
- If you know someone who is about to drive impaired, take his or her keys and help make other transportation arrangements.
Your best and only defense against drunk drivers is to always wear a seat belt and remain attentive to your surroundings and other drivers," Lt. Haight said.

On Sunday, December 11, 2011, at approximately 3:30pm the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash on State Highway 55 at mile maker 84, just prior to the Boise/Valley County Line. Bryan Ritchie, 30, of Cambridge was traveling northbound on SH55 in a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup. Shelby Coiner, 17, of Boise, was traveling southbound on SH55 in a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse when for unknown reasons lost control of her vehicle and drove into oncoming traffic striking Ritchie's vehicle head-on. Ritchie and 2 juvenile passengers from his vehicle were transported by ambulance to Cascade Medical Center where they were treated and released. Coiner was transported by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus with non-life threatening injuries. Her passengers, Cearful Speight, 18, and Seth Knudsen, 17, both from Boise and Jeffery Jones, 18 from Nampa, were transport by ambulance to Saint Alphonsus in Eagle with non-life threatening injuries. It is unknown if seatbelts were worn at this time.

This crash is under investigation by Trooper West with the Idaho State Police. He is assisted by Sergeant Smith and Trooper Beckner.

On Thursday December 8, 2011, at approximately 7:00 pm the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle serious injury crash at the intersection of US 20/26 and Farmway Road, north of Caldwell. Ulises Valencia, 35, of Caldwell was traveling westbound on US 20/26 in a tan Chevy pickup. Salvador Bernabe-Mendoza, 70, of Marsing was traveling southbound on Farmway Rd in a white GMC Safari van when he failed to stop at the stop sign and hit Valencia. All four occupants of the vehicles, to include Mendoza's passenger, Audelia Aguilar-Bernabe, 68, of Marsing and Valencia's passenger, Nathan Valencia, a minor, were all transported to Saint Alphonsus in Boise by ground ambulance with unknown serious injuries. It is believed that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts and it is unknown if alcohol is a factor.

The crash is under investigation by Senior Trooper Bake of the Idaho State Police. He was assisted at the scene by ISP, Canyon County Sheriff's Office, Paramedics and Fire.

At 7:15 am on December 5, 2011, Idaho State Police investigated two multiple vehicle crashes on the eastbound lanes of interstate 84 at milepost 36, near the Franklin Exit in Nampa.

Due to the traffic slowing, multiple vehicles collided causing a chain reaction. It is unclear at this time which crash occurred first.

Mitchell Cunningham, 43, of Caldwell, Idaho, driving a 2006 Honda Accord

Kampe was transported by ground ambulance to St. Lukes Regional Medical Center in Meridian with minor injuries. It is unknown if seatbelts were worn. The left lane of travel was blocked for approximately 1 1/2 hours while crews worked to clear the crash.

The crashes are under investigation by Idaho State Police Sgt. Duggan and Cpl. Coleman who were assisted at the scene by ISP Specialist Lake and Nampa Police Department.

On Thursday December 1, 2011, at approximately 8:00 pm the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash at the intersection of Ustick Road and Farmway Road west of Caldwell. Habtom Tesfazgi-Russom, 26 of Boise, was traveling eastbound on Ustick Road in a 1998 Toyota Camry when he failed to stop at the stop sign at Farmway Road. William Gallagher, 55 of Dallas, OR, was traveling northbound on Farmway Road in a 2005 Freightliner Semi pulling a 2011 Trinity trailer. Gallagher's semi struck the passenger side of Tesfazgi-Russom's vehicle. Justin Davis, 30 of Caldwell, was the passenger in Tesfazgi-Russom's vehicle and died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Tesfazgi-Russom was transported by ground ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Gallagher was not injured. Tesfazgi-Russom and Gallagher were both wearing seatbelts, however Davis was not. Alcohol is not believed to be factor in the crash. Notifications have been m

On Wednesday November 30, 2011, at approximately 5:00 pm the Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle injury crash southbound on Interstate 15 at milepost 70 near the Clark Street exit. Phillip Nichols, 79, of Clancy, MT, was traveling southbound in his 1993 Dodge Pickup pulling a Bigfoot Camper Trailer. For unknown reasons, Nichols' vehicle veered to the right and struck the guard rail. Nichols then crossed all three lanes of traffic where he came to rest in the median. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Nichols was transported with minor injuries to Portneuf Medical Center. Seatbelts were worn and weather is not believed to be a factor in this crash.

ISP SEIZES METHAMPHETAMINE AND COCAINE

On November 24, 2011 at approximately 9:49 am, Corporal Brady Barnes made a routine traffic stop on I-86 near Chubbuck. During the course of the stop, Corporal Barnes discovered and seized 1 kilo (2.2 lbs.) of cocaine, 2.7 lbs. of methamphetamine, and over $900 dollars in cash. Corporal Barnes arrested the driver and passenger, Raymond A. Camacho, 56 years of age, of Fresno, CA., and Juan Aguilar, 59 years of age, of San Jose, CA. for trafficking in illegal drugs. The drugs had a street value of approximately $145,000.00. Both Camacho and Aguilar were incarcerated at the Bannock County Jail.

Corporal Barnes was assisted by ISP detectives and a Chubbuck Police Department K-9 unit.

The Idaho State Police and local Law Enforcement Agencies are reminding motorist to prepare for heavy traffic around the Thanksgiving Holiday and to ensure they are buckled up during their travels.

Seat belts have saved more lives than any other single piece of automotive safety equipment, but in order for them to work, they have to be used. This Thanksgiving, and every day and night of the year, make sure you buckle up your seat belt and you'll have the opportunity to unbuckle that other belt at the feast table with your family and friends.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), night time is one of the more dangerous times on the road because seat belt use is traditionally lower. Of deaths at night during the 2009 Thanksgiving holiday period, over one-half (54%) did not have their seat belts fastened, while 49 percent in day-time crashes were not wearing seat belts. Research has shown that when lap and shoulder belts are used properly, the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger car occupants is reduced by 45 percent, and the risk of moderate to serious injury is reduced by 50 percent.

The Idaho State Police will be partnering with local agencies for the upcoming Impaired Driving Mobilization Patrol. The Office of Highway Safety through the Idaho Transportation Department is providing federal funds for extra patrol coverage in an attempt to intercept and apprehend D.U.I. drivers. As a reminder, Drive Sober, or Get Pulled Over.

Idaho State Police investigated a fatal crash that occurred on State Highway 55 at mile post 86.7 south of Smith's Ferry, Idaho on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at 11:06 a.m. Katherine L. Bulcher, 19 of Hansen, was traveling south on State Highway 55 on snow and slush covered roads when she lost control of a 2006 Toyota Camry while negotiating a sweeping right curve. Bulcher's vehicle started to fish tail and crossed the center line into the northbound lane of travel. Vernon D. Chitwood, 62, of Boise, was traveling north in a 2003 Ford F350 pickup. Chitwood attempted to avoid the Camry by steering to the right; however, he was unable to avoid the collision with Bulcher's vehicle.

Occupants in both vehicles were taken by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Sarah C. Asmus, 18, of Blackfoot, a passenger in Bulcher's vehicle, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011, from her injuries.

It appears that seatbelts were worn by all occupants and alcohol is not a factor in this crash. Idaho State Police Corporal Sherbondy investigated this crash with the assistance from Valley County Sheriff's Office.

On Monday, November 21, 2011 at Idaho State Police District Five will hold a ceremony to honor the heroic deeds of Sergeant John Kempf, Detective Paul Olsen, and Corporal David Noyes. The three officers were involved in three separate incidents in that past several months. A brief overview of each incident follows:

Sergeant Kempf will be receiving the Idaho State Police Silver Star Award. Here is a brief account of the incident:

On June 7, 2011 at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sergeant John Kempf came upon a crash in the median of I84 near milepost 195. As he approached the scene he observed the tractor portion of a tractor trailer on its side and on fire. He was the first emergency responder on scene.

Sergeant Kempf and a citizen approached the tractor and heard cries for help coming from inside the cab. The tractor was lying on its side and Sergeant Kempf and the citizen had to climb on top to open the door. Once on top they observed the driver, who was severely injured, inside the cab. Sergeant Kempf and the citizen pulled the driver free of the cab and with the help of other citizens, carried him approximately 25 yards away from the tractor. Approximately 20 seconds later the tractor exploded and became fully engulfed in flames.

The driver was severely injured and could not have extricated himself from the tractor. He would have undoubtedly perished in the fire were it not for the heroic actions of Sergeant Kempf.

Detective Paul Olsen will be receiving the Idaho State Police Lifesaving Award. Here is a brief account of the incident:

On June 22, 2011 at approximately 8:00 pm Detective Olsen happened on the scene of a single vehicle crash on I-86 at milepost 30. The vehicle, an eight passenger Suburban, had been carrying eleven individuals including the driver. As a result of the crash, six of the occupants were ejected and three were killed instantly. Detective Olsen was the first emergency responder to arrive on scene.

One of the surviving victims was unconscious and having trouble breathing. The rest were walking wounded. Detective Olsen determined that his rescue efforts could best be served by helping the victim who was having difficulty breathing. Detective Olsen opened the victim's airway which allowed him to breathe. Detective Olsen maintained the open airway by holding the victim's tongue until he was relieve by EMTs.

Despite Detective Olsen's efforts, and the efforts of advanced medical personnel, the victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries 3 days later at the University of Utah Medical Center where he had been airlifted. Detective Olsen's actions brought comfort and relief to a suffering human being and allowed the victim's family the opportunity to say goodbye to their loved-one before he passed away.

Corporal David Noyes will be receiving the Idaho State Police Lifesaving Award. Here is a brief account of the incident:

On September 6, 2011 at 8:25 pm, Corporal David Noyes was dispatched to I-15 at the Center Street overpass to check on a subject that was on the bridge close to the south bound lanes. When Corporal Noyes arrived, he found a subject sitting on the bridge railing over Center Street. The subject yelled at Corporal Noyes to stay back and threatened to jump off the bridge.

Corporal Noyes acted quickly and requested additional assistance and closed the southbound lanes of I-15 and the adjacent roadways. Corporal Noyes negotiated with the subject, developed a rapport with him, and kept him from jumping. Ultimately Corporal Noyes was able to grab the subject when the subject was distracted, and took him into protective custody. Corporal Noyes displayed calm, courage and intelligence throughout the incident and was able to bring a very tense and dangerous situation to a safe and successful conclusion.

At this time, 12:45 pm, Thursday, November 17, 2011, Idaho State Police is assisting the Idaho Transportation Department in shutting down Interstate 15 from Idaho Falls to Roberts due to low visibility caused by blowing dust.

Interstate 15 will be closed for an unknown amount of time from milepost 119, the Grandview Dr. / US Highway 20 exit in Idaho Falls, to milepost 134, the Roberts exit. Motorists will have to find alternate routes of travel until the Interstate reopens.

INCIDENT NARRATIVE: Miller was preparing to enter the mill in Moyie Springs,Idaho by driving across the railroad crossing. Miller stopped at the stop sign, then proceeded across the tracks and failed to see the oncoming train. The train struck the cab of Miller's truck and pushed the truck and trailers off the roadway. The truck and trailers stayed upright on their wheels.

Thanksgiving is a festive time for many that brings families and friends together, but it can quickly turn into a nightmare when loved ones choose to drive impaired.

Using federal grant funds, the Idaho Transportation Department is partnering with the Idaho State Police to make state highways safer by funding education campaigns and high-visibility impaired driving enforcement patrols from November 19 through November 27.

"The effort is part of Idaho's Toward Zero Deaths' goal to someday have no traffic deaths on Idaho's roads. Traffic deaths are not just numbers. They are family members and friends lost," said Kevin Bechen, with ITD's Office of Highway Operations and Safety. "We want everyone to make it home safely after holiday celebrations."

During the campaign, officers will be watching for impaired drivers. They also will check for seat belt use.

"If your Thanksgiving celebration involves alcohol, avoid driving any vehicle when 'buzzed' or drunk," said Lt. Kevin Haight. "It's not worth the risk."

"Not only do you risk injuring or killing yourself or someone else, but the financial costs of an arrest or crash are significant," he explained.

A few simple precautions before celebrating, can prevent a drunk-driving tragedy:
- Whenever you plan on consuming alcohol, designate a sober driver before going out and give that person your keys.
- If you're impaired, call a taxi, a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
- Promptly report drunk drivers you see on roadways to law enforcement. To contact the Idaho State Police, call *ISP or 208-736-3070.
- If you know someone who is about to drive impaired, take his or her keys and help make other transportation arrangements.

On Monday, November 14, 2011, at approximately 5:04 p.m., Cpl. Caldera of the Idaho State Police stopped a 1997 Honda Accord for a traffic violation . The stop occurred on I-15 at milepost 97, which is located in Bingham County. Cpl. Caldera's investigation lead to the arrest of 3 people for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and the seizure of over $5000.00 in cash. The people arrested were 26 year old Amber Duncan, 24 year old Alan Schoepke, and 27 year old Abraham Nyhart. The suspects were booked into the Bingham County Jail. Cpl. Caldera was assisted by the Blackfoot Police Department. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

On Tuesday, November 15,2011 at approximately 10:50 a.m., Cpl. T. Nalder stopped a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban for a traffic violation. The driver Philip E. Grossi was traveling east bound on Interstate 86 near milepost 28 in Power County. The driver was identified by his Montana driver's license. Cpl. Nalder through his investigation discovered 23 pounds of marijuana. Cpl. Nalder seized the marijuana and also seized approximately $1000.00 in cash. Grossi was charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana, Felony Trafficking in Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia. The drugs are street valued at approximately $115,000.00. The investigation is continuing.

The FBI Salt Lake City Division and the Idaho State Police are conducting a joint investigation of a shooting that involved Nez Perce Tribal Police Department officers. The incident occurred Saturday night, November 12, 2011 on U.S. Highway 95 in Lewis County, Idaho. Jeffery Allen Flinn, a 46-year old resident of Lewiston, Idaho, was shot at the conclusion of a vehicle pursuit and died at the scene. Deputies from Nez Perce County Sheriff�s Department, Lewis County Sheriff�s Office, and an Idaho State Police trooper were involved in the pursuit at various points. None of the involved law enforcement officers was injured in the incident.

Because the incident occurred within the confines of the Nez Perce Indian Reservation, the matter will be reviewed by the United States Attorney�s Office for the District of Idaho. Due to the ongoing investigation, no further information can be released at this time.

INCIDENT NARRATIVE: Williamson was West Bound on US12 near Milepost 132.8 when he failed to negotiate a right hand curve. He then drifted left of center and over-corrected causing the pup tank trailer to whip across the snow covered road. The pup trailer then hit the guardrail on the East bound side of the highway, bounced back across the roadway and back into the West bound burrow pit. It overturned and broke loose from the main tractor. An undetermined amount of gasoline and diesel spilled from the pup trailer.

On Saturday November 12, 2011, at approximately 3:00 pm, the Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle injury crash westbound on Interstate 84 at milepost 250. Ronald Kimbrough, 64, of Great Bend, Kansas, was headed westbound in a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass when, for unknown reasons, he went off the right shoulder. Kimbrough overcorrected, causing the vehicle to skid sideways across the westbound lanes and into the median where it rolled. The vehicle came to rest on the left shoulder partially blocking the eastbound lane of Interstate 84. The eastbound lanes of traffic were blocked for approximately an hour for Life Flight to land. Kimbrough was taken by Life Flight to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello with unknown injuries. Kimbrough's three passengers, James Kimbrough, 33, of Stafford, KS, Caroline Huffman, 34, of Macksville, KS and Roxie Shrode, 55 of Great Bend, KS were all taken by ground ambulance to Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley with unknown injuries. It is unknown if the driver and passengers were wearing seatbelts. Weather was not a factor in the crash.

The crash is under investigation by Trooper Stradling of the Idaho State Police.
