On January 3, 2020, the Idaho State Police, received information from an FBI Special Agent that a wanted Felon was identified and driving westbound on Lapwai Road in a red Mazda pickup. The suspect, Dale B. WEST, 39, of Lewiston had a felony warrant for Failure to Appear on a charge of Felony eluding. With the knowledge that WEST had a history of eluding, Troopers closed the road to eastbound traffic and staged to deploy spike strips if WEST attempted to elude again. When Troopers located WEST and initiated a traffic stop, approximately 2:46 p.m., WEST attempted to turn onto a steep gravel private road off of Lapwai Road. WEST stalled the pickup and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit across Lapwai Road and into the creek, WEST was apprehended without incident. WEST was arrested for the warrant and was also charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine), Resist and Obstruct a police officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of an Open Alcohol Container. WEST was incarcerated at the Nez Perce County Detention Center in Lewiston. Lewiston Police Department Detectives, FBI and Quad Cities Drug Task Force assisted with the arrest.
