On August 2nd, 2019 at 12:05 p.m. a fatal crash occurred on US95 at milepost 379.9, just south of Tensed, Idaho. A pickup truck was travelling south when it went left of center and struck a 1995 Kenworth Tractor Trailer head on. As a result of the crash, both vehicles caught fire and became fully engulfed before spreading to a nearby field. The driver of the Kenworth semi, Walter O. Chappell, 53, of St. Maries, Idaho, was life flighted from the scene to Kootenai Medical Center. Danny R. Moore, 49, of St. Maries, Idaho, was transported by ground ambulance to Gritman Medical Center in Moscow. The roadway is still expected to be blocked to one lane of travel for the next one to two hours. The fires have been put out and it is unknown if any occupant was wearing seatbelts. The vehicle description and the identity of the fatal victim will be released pending positive confirmation and notification of next of kin. The investigation is continuing.
