On March 29, 2018, at approximately 12:20 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash eastbound on I-84 near milepost 199, west of the Kosata road exit, in Jerome County.

Brian J. Carter, 41, of Burley, was driving a 2013 Fiat 500. Diane F. Allen, 76, of Rupert was driving a 2015 Ford Edge. Carter and Allen were both traveling eastbound on I-84. Carter attempted to pass Allen in the right lane. Carter did not complete the pass and struck Allen's vehicle. Carter's vehicle continued into the median, rolled and came to rest in the left lane. Allen's vehicle came to rest in the median.

Carter was transported by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. Allen and her passenger, Helen C. Beeler, 81, of Rupert were transported by ground ambulance to Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert.

Seat belts were worn by all subjects. The left lane of I-84 was blocked for approximately two hours.
