On March 12, 2018, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a crash westbound I-84 at milepost 17, near the Sand Hollow exit.

Roy W. Chandler, 59, of Vale, Oregon, was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Golf eastbound on I-84. At approximately milepost 16.5, Chandler went through the median into the westbound lanes, hit the barrier, and rolled.

Chandler was transported by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Chandler was not wearing a seatbelt.
