On March 27, 2017, Idaho State Police detectives attempted to arrest Rocco Chacon, 24 years of age of Pocatello, at the intersection of Golden Gate and Olympus in Pocatello. Chacon, who was driving a white Honda passenger car, was wanted on two outstanding felony warrants. As detectives approached on foot, Chacon accelerated his car forward and struck one of the detectives. Fearing that Chacon had run over a detective as he drove forward, several detectives fired their weapons. Shaylee Williamson, 20 years of age of Pocatello, who was a passenger in Chacon's vehicle, was struck by the gun fire. Chacon fled the scene and a pursuit ensued. Chacon and Williamson were apprehended at the end of the pursuit and both were treated at a local hospital. The Pocatello Police Department investigated the shooting and released their report to the Bannock County Prosecutor's Office who appointed a special prosecutor to review the case. The special prosecutor has determined that the Idaho State Police detectives were justified in using deadly force. No further information will be released at this time as additional charges are pending against Chacon.
