ISP News release: Shots fired at Idaho State Police during attempted traffic stop in Minidoka County

Today at approximately 12:25 a.m., Idaho State Police attempted to stop a Ford Mustang for numerous traffic violations near the intersection of 300 South and 300 West, Minidoka County. As the trooper attempted to initiate the traffic stop, the Ford Mustang fled north towards Rupert. During the pursuit, gun shots were fired from the suspect vehicle. Neither the trooper nor his police vehicle were struck by the shots. The trooper was able to maneuver the Mustang to a stop at approximately 12:33 a.m. Cody L. Hinerman, 25, was taken into custody without incident. Two other adult male passengers were briefly taken into custody, interviewed and released.

The shooting is being investigated by the Cassia County Sheriff's Office. The crash portion of the incident is being investigated by the Rupert Police Department. Please refer all media inquiries to the Jerome Idaho State Police office.
