Final Update: Multiple Crashes Block Interstate 84 West of Burley

On Friday, July 21, 2017, Idaho State Police investigated three property damage crashes on Interstate 84 between mileposts 194 and 201, in Jerome County.

The first crash occurred at 5:22 p.m. eastbound I84 at milepost 198. Sagemarie Sprenger, 27, of Burley, was eastbound on I84 in a 2017 Volvo semi pulling two trailers. Lavonne Russell, 49, of El Cajon, California, was following behind Sprenger in a 2015 International semi pulling a trailer. Sprenger stopped for slowing traffic in front of her. Russell was following too closely, and struck the rear of Sprenger's trailer. Both Sprenger and Russell were wearing seatbelts. Russell had a juvenile passenger in the vehicle. The juvenile was wearing a seatbelt. The eastbound lanes were blocked for approximately 45 minutes.

The second crash occurred at 5:40 p.m. eastbound I84 at milepost 195.5. The following drivers were all westbound: Iosif Todirash, 27, of Springfield, Missouri in a 2007 Volvo semi pulling a trailer; Glenn Combs, 24, of Filer, in a 2015 Ford F350; John Goodrich, 57, of Mountain Home, in a 2014 Ford Fusion; and Alexander Harrison, 25, of Vancouver, Washington, in a 2014 Kia Cadenza. The Volvo struck the rear of the Ford F350, which struck the rear of the Ford Fusion. The Volvo went off the right shoulder where it hit a guardrail and then came back into the lane, where it struck the Kia. Combs, Goodrich, and Harrison were all wearing their seatbelts. The westbound lanes were blocked for approximately 2 hours.

The third crash occurred at 6:06 p.m. eastbound I84 at milepost 194. Alice Prudent, 54, of Kimberly was eastbound in a 2012 Honda CRV. Phillip Rangel, 49, of Logan, Iowa, was following the Honda in 2006 International semi. Both were stopped in traffic, but Rangel let off the clutch and struck the rear of the Honda. Both Prudent and Rangel were wearing seatbelts. There was no blockage.

The crashes are under investigation by Idaho State Police. They were assisted at the scenes by the Jerome County Sheriff's Office, the Minidoka County Sheriff's Office, and West End Fire Department.
