On July 1st, 2017 at 10:24 am, there was a blocking crash that occurred on EB I90 at milepost 19, 4 miles east of Coeur d'Alene, near the Yellowstone Trail overpass. Russell Maggio, 82 years of age, from Henderson, Nevada, was eastbound on I90 at milepost 19 when the white and silver 2007 Forest River camp trailer he was pulling with his white 1984 Ford Econoline van, started to fish tail causing the van to do the same. This caused the van and the camp trailer to overturn onto their sides, hitting the concrete barriers, pushing three of them into the westbound lanes. Kayla Hamlin, 30 years of age, from Osburn, Idaho, driving a blue 2004 Dodge Dakota pick-up, was westbound on I90 at the time the van and camp trailer overturned. The displaced concrete barriers struck Hamlin's vehicle and caused her to then crash into Dale Gauer, 65 years of age, from East Helena, Montana, driving a white 2008 Four Winds Majestic motorhome, who was also westbound. Maggio and his passenger, Karen Maggio, 72 years of age, from Henderson, Nevada, were transported to Kootenai Health with minor injuries. Hamlin, Gauer and Gauer's passenger, Mollye Gauer, 65 years of age, from East Helena, Montana, were not injured. Everyone involved was wearing their seatbelts. The roadway was blocked for approximately 4.5 hours, in both directions while the vehicles were being removed, the crash was being investigated and the Idaho Transportation Department was able to respond with a front end loader to replace the concrete barriers. Investigation is ongoing.
