Several Treasure Valley area law enforcement agencies participated in an impaired driving emphasis task force over Memorial Day Weekend. The focus of the emphasis was to stop impaired driving, one of the most deadly and preventable causes of crashes. In addition to impaired driving, regional law enforcement issued several citations for various hazardous moving violations.

Idaho State Police, Meridian Police Department, Boise Police Department, and Nampa Police Department teamed up last weekend and in a 24-hour period the team's results included:

Total Contacts: 112
Misdemeanor DUI: 4
Excessive DUI: 2
Felony DUI: 1
Misdemeanor Possession of Controlled Substances: 1
Felony Possession of Controlled Substances: 1
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: 4
Felony Possession of Stolen Vehicle: 1 (included vehicle recovery)
Resist and Obstruct: 1
Providing False Information: 1
Littering: 1
Inattentive Driving: 1
Driving without privileges: 6
Failure to Purchase Driver's License: 1

Law enforcement will continue to work as one team throughout the summer with the goal of reducing deadly crashes caused by dangerous driving behaviors including impaired drivers, distracted drivers, aggressive drivers, speed and seatbelt enforcement. The Idaho Department of Transportation's Office of Highway Safety is providing grant funds that will allow law enforcement agencies to pay for extra patrols dedicated to traffic law enforcement.
