On Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 11:15 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated an injury-crash on US-93 at milepost 53.5, near the Flying J truck stop in Jerome.

James Dawson, 72, of Hailey was riding a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on US-93. Arthur Smith, 76, of Seaside, Oregon, driving a 2002 Jamboree motorhome, pulled out of a parking lot turning onto the southbound lanes. The vehicles collided and Dawson was ejected.

Dawson was not wearing a helmet and was transported via air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Smith and his passenger, Pati Smith, 78, of Seaside, Oregon, were wearing seatbelts and were not transported.

The southbound lanes were blocked for approximately two and a half hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police with assistance at the scene by the Jerome County Sheriff's Office.
