Media advisory: 27 new Idaho State Police Troopers receive their badges today, Capitol Rotunda, 10:00 a.m.

Immediate Release, 28 April 2017
Contact: Tim Marsano, ISP PIO
(208) 884-7122
Who / where: Twenty seven newly commissioned ISP Troopers will receive their badges today in a ceremony on the 2nd floor, Capitol Rotunda.
When: 10:00 a.m., TODAY, Friday, April 28, 2017
What: The 27 men and women of "Advanced Training Class #45" have undergone 4 months of rigorous training and this is the culmination of that training. As part of the training, they have learned arrest techniques, driving skills, report writing, communication skills and evidence collection. They have also undergone demanding physical training during this 16-week course. The newly minted ISP Troopers have all been issued patrol cars and these will be on display in front of the Capitol building. The ceremony will be overseen by former ISP Trooper Richard Wills. The Troopers have each been assigned to one of 6 district offices throughout the state.
Why: These ISP Troopers replace former Troopers who have moved on from the force; they are filling vacant positions. The will continue our proud tradition of "providing public safety across the State of Idaho through law enforcement excellence" as we have done since 1919.
Note: we will have a drone from our unmanned surveillance program flying over the Capitol and getting video of the patrol car lineup. This video can be made available to media outlets upon request, however, we will need to hand the video disk to each reporter who requests one later in the day, by hand. We can make arrangements for that at the event today.

News Release - Idaho State Police Posts Virtual Reality Recruitment App and Videos

The producer of the Idaho State Police Recruiting app is 360 Immersive (http://360immersive.com/). Timothy Marsano, spokesperson for the ISP and David Cleverdon, Partner in 360 Immersive believe Virtual Reality is the new wave of recruiting -- fewer dollars spent, broader searches, and greater engagement by potential employees. Virtual Reality allows recruits to discover and experience ISP's culture as well as other benefits that living and working in Idaho offers. The Idaho State Police is able to launch 360 Immersive's app on both iOS and Android devices; available for viewing at the potential employees' convenience.

"This application has the potential to allow highly qualified recruits to view, in a new way, the opportunities the Idaho State Police have to offer", said ISP Major Sheldon Kelley. "We're excited to share this new technology with the citizens of Idaho and the nation as a whole, especially those men and women who might consider a career of service to the citizens of this great state while wearing the uniform of an ISP Trooper."

The app offers a virtual recruiting office and includes commentary from four ISP officers who represent different levels of responsibility and leadership within the organization, highlighting ISP's culture and the communities it supports, protects and defends. The apps are easy to download and viewers can experience the world of VR from the perspective of the Idaho State Police.
