On February 4, 2017 at 10:20 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash on U.S. Highway 93 near milepost 53.5, in front of the Flying J. John Gott, 33, of Twin Falls, was northbound on U.S. 93 in a Ford F-250 driving in the left lane. Mickey McConnell, 50, of Umatilla, Oregon, was stationary in a Ford Expedition waiting to turn southbound from the Flying J parking lot. McConnell's vision was obstructed by a semi turning into the parking lot. As he attempted the left turn southbound, he failed to yield to and collided with Gott's F-250.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and airbags deployed in the Expedition. McConnell was transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center. The left northbound lane was blocked for approximately one hour while emergency crews worked to clear the scene. The crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
