At 12:00 p.m. yesterday, January 17, 2017, the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash eastbound on I84 at milepost 27 in Caldwell. Allen Viall, age 53 of Gillette, WY was driving eastbound on I84 just past milepost 27, or Centennial Way in Caldwell in a semi-truck with a trailer. Norman Leavitt, age 51 of Kuna, had entered the Interstate from Centennial Way in a semi-truck with two trailers. Leavitt attempted to move into the left lane of travel, which was occupied by Viall's vehicle. The impact drove Viall's vehicle into the median concrete barrier, which was pushed into westbound traffic along with some of the traffic control barrels.

Westbound traffic was blocked for approximately one and a half hours while emergency crews and Idaho Transportation Department personnel responded and reset the barriers. The left lane of eastbound traffic was blocked for approximately five hours until the vehicles could be removed. Leavitt was transported by ground ambulance to West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
