On Thursday, July 28, 2016, at approximately 06:30 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle property damage crash northbound on SH-55 at mile marker 98, near Smith's Ferry.

Andrew Esplin, 18, of Ontario, OR was traveling northbound on SH-55 in a Dodge Ram 2500 pick-up pulling a homemade single axle trailer, when the vehicle went off the right shoulder. Esplin then overcorrected the vehicle causing the trailer to disconnect and roll, coming to rest in the southbound lanes of travel.

Approximately 200 gallons of aviation fuel spilled out of a fuel tank on top of the trailer and onto the roadway. Esplin was wearing his seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries in this crash. Both lanes of travel were blocked for approximately 2 and one half hours. Both lanes of travel are now open.

This crash is currently under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
