On January 24, 2016, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Idaho State police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash on State Highway 55 at milepost 57, near the Horseshoe Bend Hill Summit, in Boise County, ID.

Carmen I. Baker, 74, of Meridian, ID was driving southbound in a 2014 Honda CRV. Baker had slowed her speed to accommodate a difficult driving situation with slowed traffic in front of her. All southbound traffic was driving with the sun shining directly in their eyes.

Shelly L. Culver, 62, of Boise, ID was also driving southbound in a 2015 Ford F150 pickup. As Culver approached the slowed traffic, she did not adequately slow her vehicle, and struck Baker's vehicle.

Also travelling in Culver's vehicle was Debra S. Uptmor, 58, of Caldwell, ID. Culver and Uptmor were transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, ID. Baker was transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Eagle Health Plaza in Eagle, ID. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

The southbound lane of travel was blocked for approximately two and one half hours. The crash investigation is continuing.
