On Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 4:46 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle, injury crash westbound I-84 at milepost 8, approximately one mile west of New Plymouth. James Mills, 40, of Caldwell, was eastbound on I-84 in a 2012 Volvo semi pulling three trailers. The semi went off the left shoulder of the eastbound lanes, crossed the median and both westbound lanes, colliding with the guardrail on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes. The semi went through the guardrail, coming to rest down an embankment.

Mills was transported to St. Luke's Clinic in Fruitland by ground ambulance. He was wearing a seatbelt. The lanes were not blocked by the semi, but have been periodically blocked while emergency crews work on removing the semi, trailers, and lumber.
