COEUR D'ALENE - Idaho State Police detectives continue to investigate a shooting involving three officers from the Coeur d'Alene Police Department that occurred on the evening of Friday, June 6th that resulted in the death of Thomas L. White, 28 of Coeur d'Alene.

The initial investigation has revealed that upon response to the domestic disturbance call on Dragon Fly at about 9:00 p.m., the first responding officers detected concern from the family regarding White's actions and his potential return to the house. After searching for White, officers located him in the backyard of a neighbor's residence. White went to the second floor deck of the neighbor's residence and the officers gave verbal commands to White. The officers, who had moved to the backyard corner of the house, saw that White was holding a gun. The officers told White to put the gun down and come down from the deck so they could talk with him. The officers made multiple requests to gain White's compliance. White then pointed the gun at the officers and ignored repeated commands to drop the gun, put his hands on his head, and come down the stairs. Mutual exchanges of shots were fired by White and three Coeur d'Alene officers. White was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

The officers directly involved in the shooting are Sgt. Greg Moore, Officer Johann Schmitz and Officer Jacob Nielsen. Sgt. Moore has been with the Coeur d'Alene Police Department for 15 years, Officer Schmitz for 2 years and Officer Nielsen for 1 1/2 years.

Results of the autopsy are pending and detectives are continuing the investigation.
