***UPDATE***

On December 3, 2013, at 7:18 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 26 near milepost 342, about 7 miles east of Idaho Falls.

Errol Smith, 71 of Idaho Falls, was driving a Bonneville School District school bus and had stopped to pick up students. Von Fisher, 41 of Idaho Falls, was driving a 2001 Nissan Frontier pickup. Fisher crashed into the right rear corner of the school bus, slid around the passenger side of the bus. Four children about to board were standing outside of the bus, but were not struck by the passing vehicle. No one involved in the crash was injured. Fisher was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

At 7:59 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a second crash involving a school bus on 3800 East Road near 144 North in Jefferson County, about 2 miles southwest of Rigby.

Steven Golder, 69 of Menan, was driving a Jefferson County School District school bus and had stopped to pick up students. Gunner Smith, 16 of Rigby, was driving a 1990 Honda Accord. Smith crashed into the back of the school bus. No one involved in the crash was injured. Smith was cited for following too close.

Idaho State Police continues to investigate both crashes. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene of the second crash.

*********************************************************************************

On December 3, 2013, the Idaho State Police have investigated two separate property damage crashes involving school buses. In both crashes, the school buses were struck from behind by other vehicles. In one crash, the school bus was stopped to pick up children. The Idaho State Police reminds drivers that roads in eastern Idaho, north of Blackfoot, are icy, snow covered, and have low visibility in areas. Drivers should be aware that school buses stop frequently to pick up children, and should maintain a safe following distance.
