On November 16th, 2012, at approximately 4:54 PM, the Idaho State Police investigated a three-vehicle collision that closed one lane of Interstate 15 for approximately one hour. State Troopers were providing traffic control for a commercial vehicle hauling an oversized load that was stopped in the emergency lane on Interstate 15. Linda Yancey, 66, of Blackfoot, was driving a Buick LeSabre south near milepost 117. She slowed down due to traffic congestion as she approached the Troopers patrol cars and the commercial vehicle. As Yancey slowed, she was struck from behind by a Subaru Forester, driven by Kyle Metcalf, 18, of Shelley. Metcalf was immediately struck from behind by a Chevy Venture being driven by Samuel Clay, 52, of Rexburg. EMS responded to the crash, but none of the occupants were transported to the hospital. Everyone involved were wearing seatbelts.

The Idaho State Police would like to remind drivers to maintain a safe following distance by utilizing the 3-second following distance rule at a minimum and look far enough ahead to adjust for unexpected hazards.
