Fatal Crash on I86 Near Arbon Valley Highway

On July 3, 2012 at approximately 6:26 pm, Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle fatality rollover crash westbound on I-86 at mile marker 53, near the Arbon Valley Highway.

Idaho State Police report that 20 year old Kelton Jonathan Zundel of Pocatello was driving eastbound on I-86 in a 2009 Chevrolet Impala when he drove off the left shoulder. Zundel steered back onto the road and overcorrected where he lost control of the vehicle and skidded off the road into the median. The vehicle traveled through the median and overturned coming to rest in the westbound lanes of travel.

Zundel was wearing a seat belt, but died from the injuries he sustained in the crash. Zundel's passenger, 22 year old Jeffrey Cardell of Pocatello, was also wearing a seat belt and was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in this crash.

The westbound lanes of I-86 were blocked temporarily for Life Flight.

The Idaho State Police were assisted at the scene by the Power County Sheriff's Office, Fort Hall Police and EMS, Power County EMS, Chubbuck Fire Department, Bannock County EMS, Forest Service Fire Department and Life Flight.
