On May 4, 2012 at approximately 8:18am the Idaho State Police responded to a semi-truck crash on Interstate 15 near the Malad Summit. State Police reported that a Walmart tractor with double trailers was north bound on I-15 when the driver drove off the left shoulder into the median. The truck traveled through the median, back on to the road, across both south bound lanes, through a guardrail and down an embankment before rolling on to its driver side.

The driver of the truck, Brian Lance Bell, age 39 of Tooele, UT, was taken from the scene by ambulance to the Onieda County Hospital and then to Portneuf Medical Center where he was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries. Bell told Police that he became ill just prior to the crash.

One lane of I-15 was blocked to facilitate the removal of both the truck/trailers and the cargo.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Oneida County Fire Department and the Idaho Transportation Department.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing.
