On Monday, February 28, 2011, at approximately 2:04 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle fatality crash at Jewel Street and Camas Street in Blackfoot.

State Police reported that Joann Jensen, 64, of Blackfoot, Idaho was driving a school bus with 34 elementary school children traveling westbound on Jewel Street, when she likely suffered a medical condition which caused her to lose control and strike a power pole.

Jensen was transported to Bingham Memorial hospital by ground ambulance, where she was pronounced dead. None of the students were injured in the crash.

On Monday, February 28, 2011, at approximately 12:15am, the Idaho State Police responded to a medical situation at the Juniper Rest area on Interstate 84, 6 miles north of the Idaho/Utah border. Zygmunt Pociej, 58 years old from Ontario, Canada, was in his semi truck in the rest area parking lot when he began having chest pains. Another driver in the parking lot called for emergency assistance. Snowville ambulance and life flight responded to the scene. Mr. Pociej died of a heart attack before he could be transported to the hospital. Trooper L Nye of the Idaho State Police is investigating.

On February 26, 2011 at 11:36 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle rollover crash northbound on US93 at milepost 186.2 near Richfield, Idaho.

Ryan Parke, 32, of Carey, Idaho, was traveling northbound on US93 in a black Chevrolet Silverado when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the roadway. Parke's vehicle landed on its nose and flipped forward, coming to rest on the right side.

Parke was transported by air ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.

Trooper Comorosky was assisted at the scene by Lincoln County Sheriff Deputies and EMS. The crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

On Sunday, February 27, 2011, at 1:30am, the Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle rollover on US20 at exit 307 in Idaho Falls. Tyson Johnston, from Ammon, driving a black 2002 Ford Excursion, was entering US Highway 20 off of Lindsay Blvd. Due to excessive speeds, Johnston was unable to negotiate the corner. The vehicle went into a broad slide, hit a concrete divider and rolled. Johnston was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance with injuries. His passenger, Robert Hannon, from Idaho Falls, was not injured. It is unknown if seat belts were worn. Alcohol was a factor in the crash. The crash is under investigation by Sgt. M. Crain and assisted by the Idaho Falls Police Department.

On Saturday, February 26, 2011, at approximately 8:56 a.m., Idaho State Police Trooper B. Barnes was assisting at motorist involved in a non-reportable crash on the shoulder of the northbound lane of Interstate 15, at milepost 67 in Pocatello, Idaho. Idaho Transportation Department Supervisor Claylon Perkins, 55, of Pocatello, ID, stopped to assist Trooper Barnes with traffic control. Perkins had exited his 2009 GMC Sierra pickup when KC Petrillose-Parrish, 44, of Pocatello, ID, lost control of her 2004 Dodge Durango. Petrillose-Parrish was driving too fast for the icy road conditions. Petrillose-Parrish's vehicle struck Perkins' vehicle, causing the GMC Sierra pickup to strike Perkins.

Perkins and Petrillos-Parrish were transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho, for their injuries. Parrish was not injured. Petrillos-Parrish and passenger Ryan Parrish, 13, of Pocatello, ID, were wearing seatbelts.

This crash is under investigation by Trooper J. Law, who was assisted at the scene by Idaho State Police, Pocatello Police Department, Bannock County Sheriff's Office, Idaho Transportation Department and emergency response crews.

Shortly before 8:30 this morning, February 24, 2011, the Idaho State Police responded to an rollover crash resulting in injuries to 2 occupants. Terry Glenn, age 57 of Pocatello was traveling Westbound on I84 between on mileposts 192 and 193, about 3 miles east of the Hazelton area. Glenn was passing other drivers who had slowed for the icy conditions when he lost control of his vehicle, went into the median, and rolled his Dodge pickup. Terry Glenn and his passenger, Pamela Glenn, age 56 and also of Pocatello, were both transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, where they are in stable condition. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor, although Terry was cited for driving too fast for conditions. The investigation is ongoing by Sgt. Oliver, with assistance from Captain Storm. Jerome County Deputies, Paramedics, and Fire Department personnel also assisted at the scene.

On February 24, 2011, at approximately 08:05 am, the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash on US 26 at milepost 346, near Ririe, ID. This section of roadway has two lanes of traffic in both directions.

Craig A. Murdock, 46, of Terreton, ID was traveling eastbound in a 2003 Peterbilt semi pulling a trailer. Murdock attempted to pass an Idaho Transportation Department snow plow, which was also eastbound, plowing in the left lane. The 2005 Mack snow plow was driven by Michael O. Harvey, 50, of Rigby, ID.

While attempting to pass, Murdock struck the right side of the plow's blade causing both vehicles to go off the north side of the roadway into a field. Both drivers were not injured.

This crash is still under investigation by Cpl. K. Barnes who was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Elverud and Commercial Vehicle Specialist Williams.

INCIDENT INFORMATION: Candis DUGGER was westbound US 12 in a blue 2001 Subaru Legacy driving too fast for conditions, lost control in the slush while negotiating a right curve near milepost 33.8. DUGGER slid left of center and struck an embankment on the left shoulder.
Dale BARGER was traveling west on US 12 in a red 2001 Chevy pickup. As he exited a right curve near milepost 33.8, he observed DUGGER in the roadway attempting to flag down traffic to get assistance. BARGER noted a westbound vehicle in front of him come to an abrupt stop. To avoid a rear-end crash with the stopped vehicle, DUGGER drove into a large turnout on the right shoulder. He skidded off the roadway, down an embankment and overturned, coming to rest on its wheels at the edge of the Clearwater River.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. BARGER was treated and released at the scene. DUGGER was transported to Clearwater Valley Hospital and later released.

Zero Visibility SH41 / Rathdrum Prairie area

On 02/24/2011 at 0113 hours Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle injury crash on Sand Hollow Road in Payette County.

Jenifer Korell, 36 of Weiser, was traveling northbound on Sand Hollow Road north of SE 3rd Avenue in a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo. For unknown reasons, Korell drove left of center and off the west road edge. She overcorrected, traveled back into the northbound lane, and drove off onto the east road edge. Korell overcorrected a second time causing the vehicle to veer back onto the roadway where it overturned and rolled coming to rest on its wheels.

Korell was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center for serious injuries.

This crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police. Sgt. Cagle, as well as Payette County Deputies and EMS, assisted Cpl. Gripton at the scene.

Single Vehicle Crash Near Horshoe Bend, minor injury

On Monday February 21, 2011, around 12:00pm, Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle crash east of Horshoe Bend. Timothy McCall, 51 years old of Emmett, Idaho, was traveling westbound on Harris Creek Road approximately 2 miles east of Shafer Creek Road when the 1990 Peterbilt log truck failed to negotiate the curve. The truck and trailer both overturned, spilling logs and blocking the roadway for several hours. McCall was transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise with non-life threatening injuries. McCall was not wearing his seatbelt. Icy road conditions may have contributed to the crash.

The logs have been cleared and the road is back open.
The crash is still under investigation by Cpl. Smith with assistance at the scene by Cpl. Eller, and Horshoebend fire and medical personnel.

On February 19, 2011, at approximately 3:26 p.m., Trooper Tyler Barrett, of the Idaho State Police, made a traffic stop on a Silver 2002 Toyota Tacoma for a window tint violation. The vehicle was stopped westbound I84 at mile post 219 in Cassia County.

Barrett interviewed the driver Sergio Gomez, 38, of Aspen, Colorado. During the course of the interview a Cassia County K9 unit arrived on scene. The K9 was deployed and alerted on the rear of the truck. Barrett became suspicious of criminal activity and received permission from Sergio to search the vehicle. The search resulted in locating a hidden utility compartment behind the driver's seat. Rolled inside a sock was a bundle of $100 bills to the amount of $7,300. Gomez was unable to provide receipts or explain the reason for the large amount of hidden cash. As a result Idaho State Police seized the $7,300 pending further investigation.

Trooper Barrett was assisted by Cassia County during the search. This incident is still under investigation at this time.

On Saturday, February 19, 2011, at approximately 8:18 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a crash at 252N on US 91, near milepost 105, north of Blackfoot, ID.

Regina Morrow, 71, of Blackfoot, Idaho was driving westbound on 252N, in a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville. When crossing the railroad tracks she failed to yield for an oncoming Union Pacific train. Morrow's vehicle was struck by the train, operated by Daniel Rowe, 56, of Pocatello, Idaho.

Morrow was transported by ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her passenger Barbara Porter, 46, of Blackfoot, Idaho, was transported by ground ambulance to Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot, Idaho. Both subjects sustained non-life threatening injuries. Both Morrow and Porter where wearing their seat belts.

Cpl. Caldera was assisted at the scene by Idaho State Police Tpr. Williams, Bingham County Sheriff's Office and Blackfoot Fire Department.

On February 11, 2011, at approximately 9:16 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated an injury crash that occurred at 150 E and 520 N, in Lincoln County, Idaho.
SIRCOMM received a call regarding a suicidal subject, Curt Trowbridge, 30, of Twin Falls, Idaho. Trowbridge was located by a Lincoln County Deputy. There was a short traffic pursuit during which Trowbridge rammed a police vehicle. The traffic pursuit continued until Trowbridge crashed his vehicle, a 2006 Nissan Titan pickup. Trowbridge then stabbed himself multiple times. He was transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho, for his stab wounds. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Jerome County Sheriff's Office and Shoshone Police Department assisted Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at the scene of the crash.
The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

On Sunday, February 13, 2011, at 7:00 am, Idaho State Police investigated a semi crash east of Mountain Home, Idaho.

William Palmer, 65, of Taylorsville, Utah, was traveling west on I84 at milepost 98 when his semi pulling three trailers went off the right shoulder of the roadway. He overcorrected, causing the tractor and trailers to overturn onto their passenger sides. The driver and passenger, Robin Palmer, 48, of Corinne, Utah, were both transported by ground ambulance to Elmore Medical Center with minor injuries. The westbound lanes of the interstate were blocked completely for four hours. All lanes are now open.

Tpr. Bailey was assisted at the crash scene by Sgt. Burke, Tpr. Ferris, Tpr. Bake, Elmore County Sheriff's Office, Mountain Home Fire Department and the Idaho Transportation Department. The crash investigation is continuing.

Sat. Feb 12, 2011 Road Safe Class

The Idaho State Police will be holding the last Road Safe Class for the 2010-2011 winter season on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. The class will be held at the Idaho State Police Region Office at 615 W. Wilbur Ave. in Coeur d Alene. (Meeting Room A & B)

This is the eighth year that this award-winning program has been offered year round to the public.

This is a classroom setting designed to educate drivers of all ages on the typical problems associated with winter road conditions in Idaho. The class consists of a power point presentation and video on safe driving tips as well as to prepare for the winter driving season. Other topics discussed will be how to deal with aggressive drivers on the roadways, DUIs, and other driving problems and situations. The class will last for approximately 3 hours.

No cost for the class.

PLEASE CALL Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at (208) 209-8620 to reserve a seat. Class size is limited to 60 people, so call early.

Officer Involved Shooting

On February 7, 2011 at approximately 7 p.m. the Idaho State Police initiated a traffic stop on US95 at Ohio Match Road. The suspect vehicle fled resulting in a short pursuit that ended with shots fired at Ramsey Road south of SH53. Two people from the suspect vehicle were taken to Kootenai Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries. All media related calls need to be addressed to Lt. INCIDENT NARRATIVE: Babb was northbound on US95 at milepost 359.6, entering a well marked construction zone, when for an unknown reason; he failed to brake and struck the back of the vehicle being driven by Bybee. This caused Bybees vehicle to be pushed into the back of the vehicle being driven by Vane. Vane was then pushed into an unknown gray or silver sport utility vehicle. The SUV left the scene prior to officers arriving. Floyd Babb was deceased at the scene. Alcohol may be a factor. Investigation is continuing.

On Saturday, Feburary 5, 2011 at 6:30 pm, Idaho State Police investigated a minor injury crash that occurred near Boise on I84 at milepost 56. David Heuterman, 28, of Boise was traveling westbound when he took his eyes off the roadway drifting toward a vehicle in the lane to his right, and then overcorrecting to avoid hitting the vehicle. Heuterman's vehicle entered the median and rolled, coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of travel.

At the same time a charter bus from Utah was traveling eastbound when Heuterman's vehicle came to rest in their lane. Dennis Woodbrey, 64, of Utah used evasive maneuvers to avoid hitting Heuterman head-on. Woodbrey was able to maneuver the bus enough sideswiping Heuterman's overturned vehicle and causing only minor damage to his bus.

Both lanes were blocked for about 1 hour for emergency crews. David Heuterman was taken by ground ambulance to St. Als in Boise with minor injuries.

Heuterman was cited for inattentive and not wearing a seatbelt.

Crash is under investigation by Trooper Higley, Trooper Cottrell, Trooper Murakami, Trooper Uhlenkott, and Ada County emergency personnel.

INCIDENT NARRATIVE: The 1990 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by West went off the westbound lane of U.S. Highway 12 near milepost 70.5 for an unknown reason. Alcohol in not suspected to be a factor. Investigation continues by the Idaho State Police.
