On Wednesday, October 05, 2011 at 7:17 am, the Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle crash on US Highway 93 at milepost 66 near Jerome, Idaho. Marcia Leal, age 28 of Jerome, was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango on the connector from Southbound US Highway 93 to Westbound 700 North Road when she hit several cows that were in the roadway. Ms. Leal and her infant passenger were not injured however 5 cows were killed in the crash. Sergeant Oliver said that darkness and fog contributed to the crash. The cattle were loose as a result of being chased through a fence by dogs or other wild animals during the night. Locating and corralling efforts were hindered by the fog and darkness and the roadway was blocked for approximately 2 hours for cleanup.

Sergeant Oliver was assisted at the scene by Jerome County Sheriff Deputies and the Idaho Transportation Department.

Sergeant Oliver wants to remind motorists to slow down during adverse weather conditions. As we near the winter months our weather patterns will be changing and motorists should start anticipating fog and slick roadways.
