On October 2, 2011, at 9:53 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a fatal crash on State Highway 24 at approximately milepost 0.5, near the Wayside Cafe in Heyburn, Idaho. Trevor Stapelman, 34, of Burley, was traveling northeast on State Highway 24 towards Rupert in a 2006 Dodge Pickup. Janet Kingsley, 74, of Burley, was attempting a left turn out of the Wayside Cafe parking lot onto State Highway 24 when Stapelman's vehicle collided with Kingsley's 2005 Ford Taurus. Kingsley was transported by ground ambulance to Minidoka Memorial Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Kingsley's passenger, Betsy Wood, 63, of Blackfoot, Idaho, was also transported with non-life threatening injuries. Stapelman was not injured. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.

The lanes were partially blocked for approximately two and a half hours. Neither alcohol nor road conditions are believed to be factors in the crash. The crash is under investigation by Master Corporal J. Gibbs, who was assisted by Corporal Wendler, Trooper Walker and EMS Personnel from Minidoka County.
