On Friday, September 16, 2011, at approximately 10:50 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle minor injury crash southbound on Interstate 15 near milepost 58.

Dennis Austad, 69 of Idaho Falls, was traveling southbound on I15 in a 2011 Toyota pickup. Bryce Clements, 40 of Bancroft, was also traveling southbound on I15 in a 1997 Peterbuilt semi tractor pulling a flatbed trailer. The roads were wet from rain and Austad's vehicle began to hydroplane as he was passing Clements's trailer. Austad lost control of his pickup, collided with Clements's trailer then went into the median where the pickup rolled. The pickup came to rest on its wheels partially blocking the left, northbound lane of Interstate 15 near milepost 58.

Austad sustained minor injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center. Clements was not injured. The left, northbound lane of Interstate 15 near milepost 58, was closed for approximately 50 minutes. This crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

As winter approaches, the Idaho State Police would like to remind motorists to be aware of changes in road conditions and the need to drive with increased awareness. ISP reminds motorists to please wear your seatbelts and buckle your children. Every year there are numerous people injured and killed due to the impaired driver and not being properly seat belted.
