Crash on I84 near 33 sends two to hospital

On Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Idaho State Police responded to reports of a wrong way driver on Interstate 84, near the Garrity exit at Nampa, driving westbound in the eastbound lane. As officers attempted to locate the vehicle, it was reported the vehicle made it to milepost 33 where it was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle.


Felipe Gutierrez-Gonzales, 65 of Nampa, Idaho, was driving westbound in the eastbound lane in a 1989 Honda Accord. The vehicle collided with a 1988 Toyota Cressida driven by Christopher Ybarguen, 28 of Nampa, Idaho. Gutierrez-Gonzales had to be extricated and both drivers were transported by ground ambulance with non-life threatening injuries to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. It is unknown at this time if seatbelts were worn or if alcohol is a factor in the crash.


The crash is under investigation by Sr. Tpr. Langton who was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Burke, Cpl. Chase, Sr. Tpr. B. Bake, Tpr. West, Nampa Police, Canyon County Deputies and emergency personnel.

Idaho State Police are investigating a crash eastbound interstate 84 near milepost 33, Nampa. The eastbound lanes are closed while emergency crews work to clear the scene.
It is unknown how long the lanes will be closed and drivers are advised to take an alternate route of travel.
