Update on fatal crash near American Falls.

On Wednesday June 22, 2011 at 7:58 pm, Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle rollover fatality crash on Interstate 86 near mile marker 30, 6 miles west of American Falls.

According to Idaho State Police, the driver of the vehicle, Todd Shugart, age 22 of Heath Springs, South Carolina, was east-bound on I-86 driving a 2001 Chevrolet Uplander when he drove off the left shoulder for unknown reasons and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times.
There were eleven occupants in the vehicle.

Todd Shugart, 22 of South Carolina, Kevin Lewis, 20 of Idaho, and Christopher Middleton, 22 of Florida, were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Charles Alderman, 24 of Illinois, Zackery Spencer, 20 of South Carolina, and Steven Agee, 19 of Idaho, were taken by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
Steven Agee was later taken by air ambulance to the University of Utah Medical Center.

Keely Maury, 23 of Florida, Rosa Martinez, 18, possibly of Minnesota, Jason McIntyre, 22, possibly of Colorado, and Nicole Pollick, 20 of Texas, were transported by ground ambulance to Harms Memorial Hospital in American Falls with non-life threatening injuries.

Josh Smith, 29 of Florida, was not transported and sustained superficial injuries.

Both eastbound lanes of I86 were closed for approximately 45 minutes. The second lane was closed for approximately 2 hours. All lanes are now re-opened.

Sgt. Winans reported that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Sgt. Winans was assisted by Trooper Law and Trooper Caldera of ISP, as well as the Power County Sheriff�s Office, American Falls Search and Rescue, American Falls EMS, and the Pocatello Police Department. The crash is still under investigation at this time.
