On Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at approximately 8:36 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a single-vehicle semi crash eastbound on Interstate 84 at milepost 107, east of Mountain Home. A 2008 Beall tanker truck pulling one trailer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 107. The truck was hauling gasoline and diesel. While negotiating a curve, the tanker left the roadway and drove off the left shoulder down a slope into the median where it overturned. Deputies arrived on scene and extricated the driver who had been trapped inside the cab. He was then taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise with serious injuries. At this time, the driver's name is not being released.
The vehicle leaked an unknown quantity of gasoline into the median. Elmore County Fire, Mountain Home Air Force Base fire crews, and Boise HazMat teams responded to contain the spill.
The westbound lanes of travel were completely blocked at the time of the crash and are still closed as emergency crews on scene work to clear the area. The Idaho Transportation Department is currently diverting traffic westbound at milepost 112 onto old US30.
The crash is still under investigation. Along with the other agencies mentioned, Cpl. Porupsky was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Cagle, Sgt. Bonner, Cpl. Szeles, Cpl. Carmack, and Elmore County Deputies, Fire and EMS personnel.
