On Friday, January 14, 2011, at approximately 6:36 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a multi-vehicle crash on US 20 at milepost 367, near Ashton, ID. This section of road has one lane for southbound traffic and two lanes for northbound traffic.

Monte K. Keppner, 62, of Idaho Falls, Idaho was traveling south in a 1995 Ford Explorer while pulling a second vehicle on a tow dolly. Keppner lost control of the Explorer, crossed through the first northbound lane and struck an Idaho Transportation Department snowplow in the far right hand lane. The snowplow was driven by Brian S. Lenz, 47, of Ashton, Idaho. Upon impact the towed vehicle came off of the tow dolly. Following Keppner in the southbound lane in a 1992 Honda was Jaycee M. Prather, 20, of St. Anthony, Idaho. Prather's vehicle struck Keppner's tow dolly. Traveling north in a 1998 Saturn was Kathleen M. Butler, 51, of Pocatello, Idaho. Butler's vehicle struck the vehicle that came off of the tow dolly. All three lanes were blocked for approximately 1 1/2 hours.

All drivers were wearing seatbelts. Keppner and Butler were both transported by ground ambulance to Madison Memorial Hospital.

Cpl. Goody was assisted at the scene by Cpl. Sibus, Fremont County Sheriff's Office and the Ashton Police Department.
