On Monday, December 6, 2010 at approximately 2:20 pm, Idaho State Police investigated a collision involving a commercial vehicle and sheep being herded on US Highway 26 at milepost 145.8, approximately four miles west of Gooding.

Ralph Ward, age 63 of Dietrich, was traveling westbound on US Highway 26 near milepost 146 in foggy weather when he came upon vehicles stopped in the roadway. Ward, in a 1993 White-GMC commercial tractor pulling two trailers, was unable to come to a stop in time and swerved into the eastbound lane to avoid the vehicles. Ward collided with approximately 159 of the Faulkner Land and Livestock owned sheep being herded eastbound in the lane of travel on the highway. Flaggers providing traffic control for the herders were able to avoid the commercial vehicle and were not injured. Ward was also not injured.

Ward was cited for inattentive driving. The collision is still under investigation by Tpr. DeBie. He was assisted at the scene by Commercial Vehicle Specialist Staley and the Gooding County Sheriff's Department.
